Reporting Errors and Bugs

During interactive testing, webmate lets you collect findings, screenshots, videos, and other artifacts directly with the tested device or browser. Use these findings to document what happened, review the result later in Test Lab, or create an issue in an external tracker such as Jira.

Start with a Test Run

Start a test run before you reproduce the problem. A test run groups your actions, screenshots, videos, and findings in one place so that the result can be reviewed later.

After opening a device or browser in the Workbench, open Test Info and select Start Test Run. For the full workflow, see Create a Test Run .

Add a Finding During the Session

When you find an error, create a finding from the active Workbench session.

Use Add New Finding from the test run controls to describe the issue. Include a short title, what you expected, what happened instead, and the steps needed to reproduce the problem.

You can also create a finding from device actions in an active console session. Use this when the problem is visible on the device and you want the finding to refer to the current device state.

If the issue is visual, take a screenshot first and add it to a new or existing finding. See Take Screenshots for the screenshot workflow.

Write a Useful Bug Report

A useful finding should include:

  • the tested URL, app screen, or workflow,
  • the browser, device, operating system, or platform used for the test,
  • clear reproduction steps,
  • the expected result,
  • the actual result,
  • relevant screenshots, videos, e-mails, or logs,
  • and any test data or account state that matters for reproducing the issue.

Do not include passwords, personal data, or production secrets in the finding text. If sensitive information is visible in an attachment, redact it before sharing the report outside the project team.

Review Findings in Test Lab

After the session, open Test Lab in the project.

Use Test Runs to review the whole run and all artifacts captured during the session. Use Findings when you want to focus on individual findings across test runs.

From a test run, you can review the timeline, screenshots, browser or device states, and the findings that were added during the session.

Create an External Issue

If your administrator configured the Jira integration, you can create issues from webmate findings or test runs.

To report all findings from a test run, open the test run in Test Lab and use Report Issues. webmate opens the issue reporter and fills the issue description from the test run content. The reusable workflow is described in TestLab Reports .

To report a single finding, open the finding and use Sharing > Create Jira issue. This creates an issue from only that finding. See Share a Finding .

Before submitting the issue, check the target project, issue type, summary, description, labels, priority, due date, and selected attachments. Only include artifacts that are useful for the receiving team.

Finish the Session

When you are done, finish the test run. This marks the interactive session as complete and keeps the captured findings and artifacts available in Test Lab.

If you used a temporary device, release it after the test so the slot becomes available again.
